The 2018-2019 National Junior Honor Society Inductee Ceremony will be held on
Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 7:00pm
in the Maplewood Middle School Gymnasium.


Selection Procedures

The four essential qualities for consideration:

  1. Selection to NJHS is a privilege bestowed upon students and not considered a right inherent to any student.  Membership is granted only to those students selected on the condition of their having met the standard for selection established by Maplewood Middle School.

  2. Each member must demonstrate not only good grades, but also strength in each of the remaining four criteria listed below  

  3. The selection procedures and process is public information, available to parents, students and faculty.

  4. Selection procedures reflect professional standards and practices as developed by the school personnel.

Selection Process

The following process is implemented at Maplewood Middle School when selecting new members.

  1. Students Character is evaluated… no behavior incidents in Infinite Campus from September 2018 - May 1, 2019.  

  2. Students’ academic records are reviewed to determine if the individuals are scholastically eligible for membership.*

  3. The Principal and Assistant Principal review the Candidates for Consideration.

  4. Candidates for Consideration complete the Leadership, Citizenship and Service requirements.

  5. The Co-Chairs review and approve the submitted Leadership, Citizenship and Services requirements.  

    1. At this time if all requirements are successfully completed, the Candidate for Consideration will receive notice of acceptance.**


The scholarship requirements are approved by the Maplewood Middle School Administration.

Students must receive a 92.5% or higher overall academic average in the first semester of the current school year.  

*This requirement is fulfilled prior to Candidates for Consideration are notified and the Candidate does not need to submit any forms.    


Students must be involved in a minimum of one extracurricular activity from September 2018 - May 1, 2019, and submit proof of leadership by filling out the Maplewood NJHS Leadership Requirement form.  These activities must be outside of school hours and cannot be required to be involved in by any of your teachers at Maplewood.

Examples include (but are not limited to): Student Council, athletics, forensics, parish groups, YMCA groups, club sports, academic clubs, etc…


Students must submit a letter or email from a teacher, pastor, youth leader, scout leader, etc… detailing the student’s understanding for citizenship (for example: shows respect to all students, positive role model, demonstrates positive character traits,  etc…). A minimum of one detailed paragraph is required.

No behavior incidents in Infinite Campus from September 2018 - May 1, 2019.

Students must complete a minimum of one community service activity between September 2018 - May 1, 2019, and submit proof of service(s) by filling out the Maplewood NJHS Service Requirement form.

Examples include (but are not limited to): lawn care for a neighbor/the elderly, volunteering time at concessions, church, childcare, etc…

Service is the action of helping or doing work for someone without compensation (voluntary service).  Service must extend over a period of ninety (90) minutes or more.


**Should any student that has  been nominated receive a behavior incident during the time of nomination and May 1, 2018, consideration for candidacy will automatically be revoked.
